Gravel Desert takes GES into genuinely arid terrain — the Monegros desert region of Aragón, a stark contrast to the green Girona hills that host most of the series' other Spanish stops. It's one of the more distinctive courses on the calendar for exactly that reason: sparse vegetation, exposed heat, and a very different tactical picture than the technical, climb-heavy races elsewhere in Spain.
The Monegros region has a long off-road racing pedigree beyond GES — it's the same starkly beautiful, semi-arid badlands terrain that's hosted mountain bike stage races in Spain for decades, so Gravel Desert isn't creating a novelty course so much as bringing gravel into already-established off-road racing country.
As with La Santa Vall and Ranxo, this event runs under The Traka's operational structure.
