Little Sugar is the opening act of Bentonville's Big Sugar Classic week — a mountain bike race through Bella Vista's bluff lines, caves, and ledges, finishing in Bentonville, run the weekend before its gravel counterpart. It exists here because Bentonville has become the self-proclaimed capital of American mountain biking infrastructure: 300+ miles of trail and 50+ miles of gravel accessible from downtown, built with the kind of civic and corporate investment (Walmart family money, largely) that few other American towns can match.
As a Life Time Grand Prix stop and Leadville MTB qualifier, Little Sugar draws a competitive field even though it sits somewhat in the shadow of Big Sugar the following weekend. It's often called the only genuinely technical mountain bike race in the LTGP lineup, giving pros and amateurs alike a real test on sharp limestone rock that shreds tires without much warning — top off your sealant before the start.
The 100K is the headline distance and the one that carries Leadville Trail 100 MTB qualifier status; the 50K and 20K exist as accessible entry points into Arkansas' singletrack for riders who aren't chasing a Leadville coin.
